TCIP Hosts Semiconductor Workshop at Stanford University
August 21, 2026
STANFORD, CA — The TCIP Center brought together semiconductor experts from across industry, government, and academia to discuss strategies for increasing U.S. leadership in the semiconductor manufacturing sector. Study lead, Stanford Professor H.-S. Philip Wong, and study participants presented rigorous scholarly analysis detailing the advantages of building ecosystems, including via the Science & Technology Park model, in the U.S. Benefits of such an ecosystem include the cost savings and increased efficiency that come with localizing suppliers, streamlining federal and state permitting, and collaborating with universities to develop a local skilled workers. Our industry experts noted the importance of building around existing U.S. manufacturing parks and deploying strategic industrial policy and funding to support regional hubs rather than individual companies.
The Technology Competitiveness and Industrial Policy Center (TCIP), founded in February 2025 at the University of California, Berkeley by industry leader and former TSMC Executive Chairman Mark Liu, aims to develop a new vision for advanced technology development and production in the U.S. through academic research, industrial capabilities, and regulatory policy study and recommendations.
